es received a National Science Foundation grant to organize and execute the=
 Technician Future of Work Issues Caucus for Florida Community Colleges and=
 Manufacturers. The purpose of the event will be to gather key leadership f=
rom the advanced manufacturing industry along with its workforce and educat=
ion stakeholders to foster a conversation around the future talent needs of=
 the smart factory.  =E2=80=9CTo grow a world-class technical workforce and=
 continue to ensure Florida=E2=80=99s manufacturing remains globally compet=
itive, it is important to have reliable information about the knowledge and=
 skills our talent pipeline will need to remain ahead of the curve,=E2=80=
=9D said Kevin Carr, CEO of FloridaMakes. The goal of the Caucus is to iden=
tify technologies in Florida's small- to medium-sized manufacturers that di=
rectly contribute to Florida's technicians=E2=80=99 skills gap. The project=
 will first survey both manufacturers and two-year college educators in Flo=
rida about future technical skills that will be used in manufacturing envir=
onments. Stakeholder organizations including Associated Industries of Flori=
da, CareerSource Florida, Veterans Florida, the regional manufacturers asso=
ciations across the state, the Florida Department of Education's Division o=
f Career, Technical, and Adult Education plus, Florida=E2=80=99s 28 state c=
olleges and 48 technical centers will help distribute the questionnaires. T=
he results will be reviewed by a select group of educators and manufacturer=
s during the Caucus=E2=80=99 events. Outcomes and recommendations from this=
 process will be shared with the public. =E2=80=9CThe future of work is her=
e. Now is the time to disrupt our education system to ensure for rapid, but=
 high-quality training aligned to industry and emerging technologies,=E2=80=
=9D said Henry Mack, Chancellor for Career, Technical and Adult Education a=
t the Florida Department of Education. =E2=80=9CThis convening will provide=
 an opportunity for all stakeholders to come together to reimagine workforc=
e education in view of greater social and economic mobility for many of Flo=
rida=E2=80=99s residents.=E2=80=9D  Virtual meetings will take place on two=
 dates: Oct. 15, 2020 and during the Spring of 2021 on a date to be determi=
ned. The program will be led by FloridaMakes and the Florida Advanced Techn=
ological Education (FLATE) Center in partnership with the University of Sou=
th Florida and the College of Central Florida. =E2=80=9CFlorida's wide rang=
e of manufacturing facility types and sizes presents a challenge for collec=
ting the information needed to grow the talent pipeline demanded by Industr=
